The 2nd Annual Interscholastic Panorama & Calypso Barbara Junior Calypso/Roadmarch Competitions


St. Maarten's Carnival season is not just a time for revelry and celebration but also a platform for showcasing the immense talent of the island's youth. This year's festivities reached a crescendo on Sunday, April 14th, as the Aleeze Convention Center played host to the 2nd Annual Interscholastic Panorama Competition & Calypso Barbara Junior Calypso/Roadmarch Competitions, organized by Dow's Musical Foundation.


The atmosphere was electric as schools and aspiring calypsonians gathered to compete and entertain the crowds. Here are the highlights of the event:

The steel pan reverberated throughout the venue as teams from various schools competed for the coveted title. In a display of skill and musical prowess, the Leonald Conner School “B’s”, sponsored by Belair Beach Hotel, emerged triumphant, showcasing their dedication and talent. SXM Academy 1A4 “Heavy Rollers”, sponsored by Sonesta Maho Resort, and SXM Academy 1A1 “Pete A Pan”, sponsored by Pineapple Pete Restaurant, claimed the first and second runner-up positions respectively, demonstrating the depth of musical talent among St. Maarten's youth.

The Calypso competition was a showcase of wit, humor, and social commentary. "Jojo" captivated the audience and judges alike with infectious rhythms and poignant lyrics, earning the title of Junior Calypso King. The competition was fierce, with Lady E and Princess Peterson claiming the first and second runner-up positions respectively, proving that St. Maarten's calypso tradition is in capable hands.

The Roadmarch competition set the Aleeze Convention Center abuzz with pulsating beats and vibrant performances. JP led the charge, captivating the audience with infectious energy and charisma, earning the title of Junior Roadmarch King. Following closely behind were Mighty Khali and "J", who showcased their talent and stage presence, securing the first and second runner-up positions respectively.


The turnout for the event was phenomenal, with the community rallying behind its young talent.
